Daytime temperatures Thursday in parts of Riverside County could be more than 10 degrees above average for this time of year as an early-spring heat wave is expected to bump temperatures up into the high 80s to mid 90s, forecasters said.
Temperatures in Riverside could reach 89 degrees Thursday, which would be 13 degrees above the average temperature for the date, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are also forecast to reach 89 in Lake Elsinore, which would be 11 degrees above average.
In the Coachella Valley, temperatures Thursday are expected to reach the mid to high 90s, which would be about 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year, the NWS said.
A high-pressure system is causing the heat and is expected to be accompanied by light winds and mostly sunny skies, forecasters said.
The warming trend is expected to continue through Friday for the deserts then a low-pressure system is expected to bring cooling throughout the region beginning Saturday morning, the NWS said.
