Both sides of the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona will be shut down over a four-night period beginning Sunday, and motorists were advised to consider alternate routes or be prepared for travel delays during the overnight detours.
According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, the first nighttime closure will begin at 11 p.m. Sunday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday where the 91 connects to Interstate 15.
The full shutdown is necessary to permit crews to remove temporary support structures that were put in place at the 91/15 interchange as part of the I-15 Express Lanes Project that began in 2018 and is slated for completion before the end of this year.
The $472 million project has entailed expanding I-15 between the Pomona (60) Freeway in Eastvale and Cajalco Road, on the south edge of Corona.
According to RCTC, closures on the 91 will be required during the same hours Monday night into Tuesday morning, Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Officials said motorists westbound on the 91 will be routed south on I-15 to Magnolia Avenue, where they can turn around and return to the 91. Eastbound motorists will be directed north on I-15, then turned around at Hidden Valley Parkway to re-enter the 91.
