A dust advisory for the eastern Coachella Valley will be in effect this evening until Monday morning, the South Coast Air Quality Management District said.
Strong westerly gusts of up to 60 mph were predicted to blow through the county’s desert and mountain regions, kicking up dust and creating unhealthy air conditions.
The forecast also prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory through 8 a.m. Monday.
Strong gusts can blow down tree limbs, cause power outages and, in areas with where dust is airborne, reduce visibility, the NWS said.
The winds are expected to die down by Monday morning, but some wind-prone areas may continue to have high winds until the afternoon, forecasters said.
