Firefighters Sunday knocked down what officials said was a suspicious second-alarm hillside vegetation fire that burned approximately one acre in Riverside.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:17 a.m. to a hillside north of the intersection of Central Avenue and Lochmoor Street and reported the fire was spreading at a “moderate” rate, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The fire was controlled at 2:45 a.m. City and county firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours to completely contain the fire.

“The fire is suspicious in nature due to its location further up the hillside,” according to a news statement. “There were no injuries and no property damage during the incident.”
