Frigid temperatures are expected again Tuesday morning in the Riverside metropolitan area, then temperatures will warm slowly the rest of the work week, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a frost advisory until 8 a.m. Tuesday warning of near-freezing temperatures in some wind-sheltered locations in the Riverside metropolitan area, including Temecula, Hemet and Riverside. The advisory indicates a likelihood of temperatures dropping to the low-30s in those communities and warns that widespread frost is expected, potentially killing sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered.

The Coachella Valley was not included in the advisory.

Highs are expected to warm slowly through Thursday, but will remain around 5-10 degrees below seasonal averages, forecasters said. A fast-moving low pressure system will make its way inland on Thursday night, bringing a slight chance of light showers through Friday along with cooler temperatures.

High temperatures Tuesday are forecast to reach 69 in the Coachella Valley, 61 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, 64 in Hemet, 67 in Riverside, 65 in Temecula and 47 in Idyllwild.
