A fourth suspect was charged Monday with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man who was first attacked by a dog at a Hollywood bus stop then chased and attacked by a group of assailants.
Patrick Randall Perry, 55, was charged with murder in an amended criminal complaint filed Monday, joining previous defendants Robert Anthony Garcia, 33, Isaul Hernandez, 36, and Bruce Lamont Fuller Jr., 30.
They are all charged in the May 20 killing of Berry Le’Mar Henderson, 37, who was attacked while waiting for a bus near Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue.
Garcia, Hernandez and Fuller are all due in court June 24 for arraignment. Perry was scheduled to appear in court Monday, but it was not immediately clear if he was arraigned or if the hearing was postponed.
The criminal complaint alleges that Perry wielded the knife used in the fatal stabbing. The complaint also alleges that the killing occurred while Perry was out of custody in a 2024 case in which he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and other charges — including owning a dog trained to attack or fight, causing injury. Court records indicate he was placed in a diversion program in that case.
According to police and relatives of the victim, Henderson was waiting for a bus around 3:30 p.m. May 20 when he was attacked by a dog, with the animal’s owner nearby. Surveillance video from the scene showed Henderson running across Hollywood Boulevard as he is chased by the dog and at a group of men, who eventually surround the victim begin beating him.
Garcia, Hernandez and Fuller were arrested later that day. Perry was arrested later. It was unclear what motivated the attack.
According to a GoFundMe page established by the family, Henderson was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Cneter, where he died the night of the attack.
“Berry was like a gentle giant; cool, calm, authentic man who enjoyed music, spending time in the city he loved, and living life in his own peaceful way,” according to the fundraising page. “He was not homeless. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his life mattered.”
The fundraising effort had generated more than $3,500 in donations as of Monday afternoon.
