The mercury edged up to 89 degrees at Long Beach Airport Friday, breaking a heat record for the area.

The old record of 85 for February 13 was set in 1985, according to the National Weather Service.

More warm temperatures are expected through the Valentine’s Day weekend.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Saturday calls for sunny skies with highs ranging from the mid 70s to the mid 80s further inland.

Sunday will see partly cloudy skies with similar temperatures.
