With an average temperature of 68.2 degrees, last month was the warmest March on record in downtown Los Angeles, breaking an 84- year-old record, forecasters said Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, last month’s average temperature in downtown Los Angeles was 2.2 degrees higher than the March 1931 record of 66.0 degrees.
The high temperature in downtown Los Angeles reached 90 degrees or higher on six days, breaking the record of three days set in March 1934 and matched in 1988 and 1997.
March 13-16 marked the first time the temperature in downtown Los Angeles ever reached 90 degrees on four consecutive days in March. The previous record was three days, which occurred in 1934 and 1988.
Downtown Los Angeles reached 80 degrees on 13 days in March, breaking the record of 10 set in 1914 and 1931, according to the NWS. The temperature hit 70 degrees downtown on all but three days last month, matching the record set in 1984.
The average temperatures last month also set records for Los Angeles International Airport, Long Beach, UCLA, Van Nuys, Burbank, Woodland Hills and Sandberg, according to the Weather Service.
