Cloudy skies will be the norm for the next few days, but other than some outlying areas, most Southland residents will likely avoid the chance of any rain until Friday night.

Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, told City News Service there’s about a 20 percent chance of rain — and a slight chance of thunderstorms — in mountain areas and the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys this afternoon and evening, and again Thursday afternoon and night. The Antelope Valley could also be dealing with some gusty winds of about 15 to 25 mph.   He said the weather system lumbering through the area isn’t expected to bring with it large amounts of rain, but since the system is moving slowly, if a storm “develops and sits over an area for a while, it could cause some problems.”

The rest of the area will likely avoid any precipitation Wednesday and Thursday, but there will be a 20 percent chance of rain Friday afternoon and evening, Seto said.

Temperatures are expected to hover in the 60s in much of the area for the next few days, Seto said, with the storm system expected to slowly move out of the area over the weekend.

On Sunday, a high-pressure system is expected to move in, and above- normal temperatures are forecast to return by Monday. Seto said Pasadena is likely to hit 86 degrees on Monday, with downtown Los Angeles expected to see temperatures around 80.
