Southland weather for the end of this week should be fairly calm after record rains a couple days ago and in advance of a heat wave coming this weekend.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Thursday calls for sunny skies. Highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s.

Thursday night it will be  mostly clear in the evening then areas of low clouds and fog. Lows in the 60s.

The forecast for Friday calls for low clouds and fog in the morning then sunny. Highs from the mid 70s to around 80 at the beaches to the mid to upper 80s inland.

In Coastal Orange County the forecast for Thursday calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs around 78.

Thursday night it will be mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Patchy fog overnight. Lows 63 to 68.

Friday it will be mostly cloudy in the morning, then becoming sunny. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs 78 to 83.

But Saturday could bring temperatures in the 90s in much of the Southland, triple digits in the valleys and even low to mid-80s at the beaches.

The ultraviolet index level in the Los Angeles area for Thursday is a high 8, according to the weather service. A high exposure level reading of 7-9 means that a person could be sunburned in 7-8 minutes.
