The National Weather Service is forecasting a risk of coastal flooding this week due to a combination of unusually high tides and building surf.
The highest high tides are expected Tuesday through Thursday, peaking at 6.9 feet at 10 a.m. Wednesday. At the same time, a long period northwest swell will move through the waters Wednesday through Friday, with a potential for high surf on west to northwest facing beaches.
Surf along the Central Coast may build to 10 to 12 feet or higher, while in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties surf may build to 8 to 10 feet, according to the weather service. The high surf will be accompanied by dangerous rip currents.
Southern California locations prone to coastal flooding include Long Beach, Pismo and Oceano Beaches.
