A cold, dry air mass over Southern California generated sub-freezing temperatures Thursday morning in the Antelope Valley, where a freeze warning was scheduled to be in effect until 9 a.m.

“…Several hours of sub-freezing temperatures are expected,” said a National Weather Service statement.

Similar conditions are expected Thursday night and Friday. The NWS issued a freeze watch for the Antelope Valley from late tonight through Friday morning.

Such low temperatures pose a threat to animals and plants, NWS forecasters warned. They urged that pets and sensitive plants be brought indoors in freezing weather and that farm animals be placed in barns.

Antelope Valley temperatures were in the 30s overnight and expected to reach highs in the low 60s during the day. It’ll be warmer elsewhere around the Greater L.A. area. Highs are expected to range from the low to mid 70s under sunny skies turning partly cloudy later. It’ll be 75 in downtown L.A. and Woodland Hills and other inland areas.
