The largest surf event of the season with waves as high as 15 feet will pound Los Angeles-area beaches on Saturday.
The National Weather Service forecasts surf heights between 7 and 12 feet with local sets to 15 feet. The highest surf conditions will occur along west and northwest facing beaches. Even higher waves are expected along the Central Coast.
While committed surfers may be attracted to local beaches at their own risk, it won’t be much of a day for most people to hit the sand. High temperatures around the Southland are going to top out in the mid 60s Saturday with overnight lows in the mid 40s. Sunday will be pretty much the same, and then it’ll be even colder throughout much of the coming week with high temperatures in the low 60s.
The weather service warned swimmers about dangerous rip currents and said minor coastal flooding is possible, along with damage to piers, especially during the morning’s high tide.
A coastal flooding advisory is in effect until 11 a.m., and a high surf advisory continues through Sunday afternoon.
The forecast for central Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach calls for sun with highs in the 60s. It will be mostly clear Saturday might with lows in the mid 40s to low 50s. Sunday will be sunny in the morning, turning partly cloudy with highs in the 60s.
