It’ll be a great beach weekend for Southern California, but the surf could bring dangers to the unwary.
A long period west to northwest swell will bring high surf conditions to the Los Angeles County coast this weekend.
The National Weather Service office in Oxnard said the highest waves, 3 to 6 feet, will occur at exposed west and northwest facing beaches.
Strong rip currents and longshore currents are also forecast, along with sneaker waves that may suddenly sweep across previously dry sand and rocks or jetties.
The forecast for central Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach calls for partly cloudy conditions with highs from the mid 70s at the beaches to the mid 80s inland. Lows overnight will be in the mid 50s to around 60.
