High surf and strong rip currents prompted the National Weather Service to issue a beach hazards statement for Los Angeles and Oxnard counties late Tuesday afternoon.
Surf is expected to reach 3 to 6 feet, with local sets up to 8 feet through Friday evening, the NWS warned.
The highest surf will occur each afternoon and evening on west-facing beaches, according to the agency.
The impacts include “an increased risk of drowning,” the statement said. “Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.”
