Actor Danny DeVito will be honored by the Society of Camera Operators with the organization’s Governors Award, it was announced Tuesday.

The award, which recognizes DeVito’s “impressive body of work, collaborations, and his commitment to critical social causes within the entertainment industry,” will be presented March 5, during the 2022 Society of Camera Operators Awards Celebration, a virtual event.

“We are honored to present this award to such an iconic, talented and truly brilliant professional as Danny DeVito,” said George Billinger III, SOC president. “His work has inspired so many of us, and we are appreciative for all of his extraordinary contributions — to the business and the creative community at large.”

DeVito, who has also been a director, producer and screenwriter, shot to fame in the TV show “Taxi” from 1978-83. He currently appears in the FX and FXX sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

On the big screen, he’s known for his roles in “Batman Returns,” “Ruthless People” and “Twins,” among numerous other films.

The SOC will also present its Technical Achievement Award and Camera Operator of the Year Awards for Film and Television during Saturday’s virtual program. The program begins at 5 p.m., with a pre-event reception at 4:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to watch can reserve a “seat” at soc.org/awards_2022/.
