Motorists traveling on Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard will encounter a series of lane closures beginning Sunday as crews continue recovery and repair work in areas damaged by the Palisades Fire, Caltrans officials said Friday.

The closures are scheduled at various locations along PCH between Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades and Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu and on Topanga Canyon Boulevard between PCH and Grand View Drive.

Northbound PCH will be reduced to one lane for about a mile at Las Flores Canyon Road from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday for Southern California Edison work. A similar northbound closure will be in place during the same hours near Big Rock Drive.

Between Sunset Boulevard and Porto Marina Way, both northbound PCH lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning for shoulder work. Traffic in both directions will use the southbound lanes during the closures, according to Caltrans.

Daytime work will also continue along PCH, with crews permitted to establish single-lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays.

Southbound PCH may be reduced to one lane between Pena Road and Tuna Canyon Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as needed for reconstruction of a retaining wall.

Near Las Flores Canyon Road, crews will continue cleanup of Las Flores Creek along with roadway, drainage and slope repairs. The right-turn lane from PCH onto Rambla Pacifico Street will be closed during weekday work hours, although motorists will still be able to make the turn from a through lane.

On Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27, intermittent one-lane traffic control is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday to allow trucks to enter and leave a work zone for temporary paving. The speed limit through the work zone is 15 mph.

A larger closure is planned late Friday, when one-lane traffic control will begin at 9 p.m. between PCH and Grand View Drive. That stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will then be fully closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Separate overnight guardrail and shoulder work will result in one-lane traffic control between Cezanne Avenue and PCH from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday nights.

The closures are weather-permitting and subject to change. Motorists were advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes during construction hours.

Caltrans also reminded motorists that fines can be doubled in highway work zones.
