All lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway were shut down Saturday evening in the area of a burning tanker truck carrying diesel fuel in Sherman Oaks.
The burning big rig was first reported at 9:08 p.m. Saturday blocking the No. 3 lane on the northbound San Diego Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass and it reportedly continued moving until just south of Ventura Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver was reported still in the vehicle.
The tractor was burning and threatening what was described as 7,600 gallons of diesel fuel, said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey. A small leak of diesel fuel was attributed to the tractor’s own fuel tanks.
At 9:40 p.m., Humphrey reported that the fire in the tractor was almost out and had not spread to the tanker trailer.
No injuries were reported.
The San Diego Freeway was shut down between Burbank Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive, Humphrey said.
