A woman taking her dog for a walk through a peaceful Montecito Heights park found the bodies of two women who appeared to have been murdered, according to law enforcement officials.

The bodies were reported in the area of Mercury and Boundary avenues, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Broadcast footage indicated the bodies were found along a walking path through Ernest E. Debs Regional Park.

The bodies were on the side of a hill, and the woman called police, LAPD Officer Matthew Ludwig said.

The victims did not appear to have been there long, Ludwig said.

The discovery was made Wednesday afternoon and police were trying Thursday to determine what happened in the case.

ABC7 reported the victims appeared to be 18 to 25 years old.

Some reports said the victims appeared to have been murdered, but there was no official word of the cause of death.
