Detectives investigating a burglary crew caught three men as they allegedly made off with items from a ransacked home in Pacific Palisades, the sheriff’s department reported Wednesday.

The detectives, part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Major Crimes Bureau, were investigating a suspected residential burglary crew made up of members of a Los Angeles street gang who were using rental vehicles while conducting burglaries throughout Los Angeles County and parts of Ventura County, sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Maher said.

The suspects were seen in a rental car driving slowly through an upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood about 10 a.m. Tuesday, Maher said.

“A short time later, the rental car was located parked along the curb on the 700 block of Enchanted Way,” the sergeant said.

The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Mark Hundley, was alone inside the vehicle, leaning back in the driver’s seat and allegedly acting as a lookout, Maher said.

About 10:45 a.m., investigators saw 20-year-old Rayshawn Marshall and 21- year-old Michael Butler emerge from the front porch of a home and run to the street, where they were picked up by Hundley, Maher said.

“The suspects fled the area toward Pacific Coast Highway,” he said.

After detectives determined the residence had been ransacked, deputies pulled over and detained all three men near the corner of PCH and Temescal Canyon Road, Maher said.

Watches, jewelry and other personal property from the burglarized home — all valued at over $10,000– were recovered from the vehicle and from Marshall himself, according to Maher.

“The suspects also had a police scanner tuned into local law enforcement broadcasts in the vehicle,” Maher said.

All three men were booked at the Sheriff’s South Los Angeles Station on suspicion of residential burglary and were being held without bail “based on their significant criminal histories and gang affiliations, pending judicial review,” Maher said.

At the time of their arrests, all three were either on probation, free on bond for prior arrests or both, the sergeant said.

Marshall was free on bond after a recent burglary arrest and is also on probation for felony weapons violations, and his rap sheet includes previous arrests on suspicion of residential and auto burglary and robbery, Maher said.

Hundley was on probation for a recent narcotics violation and was previously arrested on suspicion of six felony weapons violations, burglaries and stolen vehicle violations, according to Maher.

Butler was free on bond following a recent burglary arrest and had prior arrests on suspicion of burglary, assault and robbery. He is also on probation for a previous residential burglary conviction, Maher said.
