A fire was burning Thursday at a paper recycling facility southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Firefighters were sent about 1:20 p.m. to the 14,000-square-foot facility in the 2400 block of East Porter Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Heavy fire was reported by arriving firefighters, who poured water on large bales of paper and worked to prevent the flames from spreading outside the facility.

A staging area was established at Olympic Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue.
