Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department extinguished a fire burning in two upper and lower cargo containers of a Union Pacific freight train carrying automotive parts Saturday in El Sereno.
Fire crews responded at 12:26 a.m. to 5222 E. Valley Blvd. and Borland Road, where they found flames inside the freight train containers, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Firefighters were able to access the containers, which were in a double-stack configuration, and extinguish the fire, Humphrey added.
It took 32 firefighters 54 minutes to secure the train and adjacent active railroad track.
The fire department was not able to identify an off-site hazard, Humphrey said.
No injuries were reported and no structures threatened.
