A Metro bus was fully engulfed in flames Friday in West Los Angeles but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the 11700 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near Barrington Avenue, around 5 p.m. Friday to reports of a vehicle on fire, according to Lyndsey Lantz of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The knockdown was achieved from a distance with a wagon battery on the first arriving engine, Lantz said in a statement.

Further investigation revealed to firefighters that the flames were burning near compressed natural gas fuel tanks on top of the bus. The tanks do not appear to have been impacted, according to Lantz.

It was unclear what sparked the fire, and the cause was under investigation.

HazMat personnel remained at the scene to ensure the area was safe after clean-up.
