Flames from a car fire threatened to spread to a row of townhouses in Riverside Sunday before firefighters managed to douse the blaze.
The non-injury fire was reported at 7:34 a.m. in an alleyway of the Tuscan Townhomes complex in the 11500 block of Magnolia Avenue, according to the Riverside City Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found a car fully engulfed in flames parked next to a garage.
“The fire was close enough to the building to lap up onto a second story cornice, threatening the townhomes,” said Battalion Chief Jeff DeLaurie.
Fire crews used firefighting foam to quickly suffocate the blaze.
Authorities said the fire was caused by a “failure of equipment or heat source.”
