Irvine police and the FBI Friday offered a $10,000 reward for information that helps them track down a mother and her daughter, who investigators suspect were abducted 13 months ago.
Amber Aiaz, 35, and her 13-year-old daughter, Melissa Fu, were last seen about 6 p.m. Nov. 22 of last year at their apartment near Michelson and University drives, according to Irvine police Sgt. Karie Davies. Melissa will be 14 next month.
Amber’s husband told police a man and woman he did not know knocked on the door to their apartment and when he answered, he was apparently gassed, Davies said. He lost consciousness and when he woke up, his wife and daughter were gone, Davies said.
The man and woman were both described as being Chinese and in their 40s. She was about 5-foot-8 with an average build and black hair in a bun, and he was about 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, with an average build and short black hair.
It’s possible they left in a black Cadillac, police said.
The family had moved to Irvine about five months before, Davies said. Before that, they lived in Las Vegas for about four or five years, according to the sergeant, who said the couple worked in the exotic meats, fruits and fish industry.
“We have not found that she (Aiaz) had a gambling or drug problem or anything sinister like that,” Davies said. “She portrayed herself as someone with money, so we can speculate if initially that was a possibility.”
But if they were abducted, there has been no ransom demand, Davies said.
Police even contacted Chinese officials to see if there was evidence the two ended up there, she said.
“Our detectives have left no stone unturned,” Davies said.
Aiaz is 5-foot-9 and about 180 pounds, with medium -ength black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black shirt, black vest, fitted black pants with white writing and light-colored shoes.
Melissa is 5-foot-11 and weighs about 200 pounds, with medium-length dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black track suit.
Anyone with information was asked to call the FBI at 310-477-6565.
