Police sought the public’s help Tuesday in identifying an SUV driver who left the scene after fatally injuring a 50-year-old pedestrian in the Manchester Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at 9:30 p.m. Sunday to South Western Avenue and West 82nd Street regarding a collision. When they arrived at the scene, they learned the driver was traveling north on Western and struck the westbound victim, later identified as Javier Tamayo of Los Angeles, in a crosswalk at West 82nd, according to the LAPD.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene, where Tamayo was pronounced dead.
The vehicle was described as a tan GMC with LED lights on the side running boards. It was last seen eastbound on 81st Street from Western Avenue.
The LAPD’s South Traffic Division was investigating the cause of the collision.
