Firefighters Saturday knocked down a blaze at a commercial building in Boyle Heights.

The fire was initially reported about 9:15 p.m. Saturday at El Mercado, at 3425 E. First St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Lyndsey Lantz.

The three-story multi-unit business is described as a marketplace selling traditional Mexican goods.

It was unclear how many units were affected by smoke and water after the sprinklers activated.

It took 41 firefighters a little more than 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. They remained on scene for overhaul.

No injuries were reported.

It was not immediately clear how the fire ignited.
