A reckless driver who led authorities on a roughly half-hour chase across multiple Los Angeles neighborhoods Monday was taken into custody after abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot.

The pursuit began around 4:40 p.m. Monday near East Fourth Street and Crocker Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, and continued through downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights and Mount Washington.

Police said the driver was initially wanted for reckless driving.

Around 5:10 p.m., the suspect briefly stopped to drop off a passenger near a residence in Highland Park. It remained unclear if the passenger was taken into custody or had been found.

The pursuit was called off around 5:25 p.m., with officers no longer actively tracking the vehicle.

The suspect continued driving and eventually pulled over beneath an overpass along the Harbor (110) Freeway near Cypress Park shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The driver then fled on foot but was located a short time later in the Lincoln Heights area, where he surrendered and was taken into custody.
