A suspect who crashed and then fled on the wrong side of Interstate 10 Thursday was taken into custody after driving on a blown out tire during a chase in Palm Springs.

The crash was reported around 5:20 a.m. on the eastbound side of the interstate near Gilman Road, according to NBC4 Palm Springs.

The suspect left the scene, but drove the wrong way, heading west in eastbound lanes, before officers stopped the vehicle near Date Palm Drive, according to the station, which reported a drone was used to check the vehicle after the chase ended.

The crash and chase temporarily closed the interstate in both directions.

The California Highway Patrol began reopening lanes at around 6:30 a.m., according to the NBC Palm Springs report.

The CHP referred questions to the Riverside County Sheriff’s office, which was investigating the crash.

An RCSO spokesman was not immediately available to comment.
