A $25,000 reward will be presented Tuesday by the fully volunteer emergency medical response organization Hatzolah to a Huntington Park woman who helped locate a missing 78-year-old woman who had been the subject of a Silver Alert.
Jeanne Rus Litvin was reported missing April 15 after last being seen near Alta Vista Boulevard and Second Street in the Fairfax district, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. A coordinated search effort followed, involving volunteers from Hatzolah.
Maggie Castellanos identified Litvin in Huntington Park on April 17 after noticing an elderly woman who appeared disoriented on a home security camera. She intervened, stayed with Litvin, and contacted emergency services. Litvin was later taken to a hospital and reunited with her family after her identity was confirmed, according to Hatzolah.
The Silver Alert program was established by the California Highway Patrol to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
