Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Michelle King — a graduate of the district she now heads — reached another milestone in her lifelong “pursuit of knowledge” Friday when she was awarded a doctorate in education from USC’s Rossier School of Education.
King — who became superintendent of the LAUSD in January 2016 — also has a bachelor’s degree in biology from UCLA and a master’s degree in administration from Pepperdine University. She received honorary degrees from Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University.

King attended Century Park and Windsor Hills elementary schools, then Palms Junior High School and Palisades High School, according to the district.
“This has been a long and exciting journey,” King said. “… I am grateful for the support I have received as I continue my pursuit of knowledge as a lifelong learner.”
King said she remains “inspired and strengthened by our amazing students and employees, as well as the amazing work taking place in our schools.”
School board president Steve Zimmer said in a statement: “Superintendent King — now Dr. King — is an outstanding role model for the entire L.A. Unified family. Through her knowledge, leadership, dedication and resiliency, she demonstrates every day that education is the key to success.”
