When “Forrest Gump” actor Gary Sinise was named grand marshal for the 2018 Rose Parade, L.A. Weekly found a critical voice.

“It’s not a good look for the city of Pasadena,” said Maria Teresa Borden of the pro-immigrant group Indivisible Highland Park. “This is a region understood to be friendly to immigrants for centuries.”

Reason for the pushback?

Sinise founded a conservative group, Friends of Abe, that in July 2015, that hosted Donald Trump at a private event at a Brentwood hotel.

“At the mixer,” said L.A. Weekly writer Dennis Romero, “Trump said the United States should have invaded Mexico. Trump’s presence in Los Angeles County, which is immigrant-friendly and about half Latino, outraged some political organizations, which demonstrated outside the Sunset Boulevard event.”

Now conservatives and backers of the president are making hay of the “liberals” dissing Sinise, active in veterans causes.

L.A. Tea Party founder Stephen Kruiser wrote in the conservative PJ Media website that the article is “one long tantrum about President Trump that they are trying to make stick to Sinise.”

“To say it’s reaching would redefine understatement. The only actual fact about Sinise that the author points to involves him disagreeing with then-candidate Trump over his remarks about John McCain.”

Kruiser, described as a professional comedian, added:

“Once mostly crypto-fascists, the American left is letting its totalitarian freak flag fly more and more these days. The people who are making a stink about Sinise want to publicly condemn someone who has a connection that is tenuous at best to people who might have voted for Donald Trump last year. It’s a kangaroo court of public opinion.”

Kruiser wasn’t the only critic of the Sinise-dissers.
