A 33-year-old Long Beach man was convicted Monday of fatally stabbing a 50-year-old man with a screwdriver in a case of mistaken identity.
Jurors found Arturo Ruiz Torres guilty of second-degree murder, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Torres was harassed by an unknown man on Nov. 13, 2013, according to court testimony. When Anthony Ramirez rode by on his bike, Torres mistook him for the man who had harassed him and stabbed him three times with a screwdriver, prosecutors said.
Torres ran off, leaving the murder weapon embedded in his victim.
Torres faces 16 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 29.
