Authorities Monday released the name of a 58-year-old woman who was killed in a solo vehicle crash on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale.
Latonya Mathis was pronounced dead at a hospital after suffering multiple blunt force traumatic injuries in the crash, which occurred about 8:25 p.m. Friday on the northbound freeway at the Palmdale Boulevard off-ramp, according to authorities.
Witnesses reported that a gray Honda Civic was being driven erratically before it went over the left embankment, struck a wall and lost a tire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle then knocked down several signs, including one at a Chevron station, before overturning and coming to rest upright on the off-ramp near a Red Roof Inn, the CHP said.
The northbound Antelope Valley Freeway was closed at Palmdale Boulevard for more than six hours while officers investigated.
