RE/MAX and The Goldwin Foundation made inaugural donations Tuesday to Children’s Hospital’s Helping Hands Fund, which helps cover the cost of treating children whose families cannot afford treatments.

The nonprofit pediatric hospital received $200,000 from RE/MAX and $100,000 from the Goldwin Foundation. The gifts and the start of the fundraising campaign were timed to coincide with Giving Tuesday — an effort to get people to give to charities on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

“Our mission is sustained through philanthropy, the support of the community and compassionate organizations like RE/MAX and The Goldwin Foundation,” said DeAnn S. Marshall, Children’s senior vice president of marketing and development.

“Our patients come to us for our world-class physicians and researchers who have the knowledge to treat the most complex disorders, but this specialized care is not possible without the generosity of our corporate partners who help ensure we have the resources to continue our mission. We are deeply grateful for their continued partnership as we create hope and build healthier futures for children.”

Of the more than 106,800 patients treated at Children’s annually, nearly 70 percent are underinsured or lack insurance, according to Children’s Hospital. Nearly half of the patients are younger than four.

The Goldwin Foundation also committed to about $445,000 in giving over their first year of involvement, and Credit Unions for Kids donated $500,000 to the fund and is challenging the community to match its gift.
