It may not have the flash of a Star Wars attraction, but Baby Boomers recall with fondness Disneyland’s original Rivers of America attraction in Frontierland that featured Davy Crockett keel boats and a giant Mark Twain paddle wheel steamship.
But even Rivers of America can’t roll along unchanged forever, and Disneyland officials Monday released an artist’s rendering to let fans know what they can expect when the Rivers of America attraction reopens following a renovation that includes a new riverfront.
The theme park’s Rivers of America and the Disneyland Railroad were closed over the weekend to make way for the new Frontierland waterfront. It’s not clear when the work will begin.
The project will include an elevated trestle for the trains to go over, and the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia will sail through the Rivers of America. The river surrounds Pirate’s Lair and Tom Sawyer’s Island.
As the work commences, the park’s visitors will get to see some of the steam engines used in the park for decades, with engineers on hand to offer interesting tidbits of information about the machines.
The new waterfront will be just outside the new Star Wars-themed attractions.
