
Fullerton-based Pulmuone Foods USA Inc. announced Thursday the purchase of substantially all of the assets of Vitasoy USA Inc. which includes the Nasoya tofu brand.
The U.S. arm of Korea-based holding company Pulmuone Co., Ltd. released a statement saying the deal solidifies the conglomerate’s “position as the world’s leading tofu company with strong operations footholds within the global tofu markets of Korea, U.S., Japan and China.”
Under the agreement signed March 23, Pulmuone will acquire substantially all of the commercial assets and operations of the Vitasoy USA soy foods company based in Ayer, Massachusetts, including the Nasoya, Azumaya and San Sui brands.
The terms were not released.
“Pulmuone now has a strong national platform and presence that will not only drive manufacturing and logistics synergies, but will also enable us to leverage a comprehensive sales and distribution infrastructure to further drive availability of our brands and products within the U.S.A.,” said H.Y. Lee, CEO of Pulmuone Foods Co.
“This expanded business scale within the USA market will also be the beachhead to drive development and growth of Pulmuone beyond the tofu category,” he said.
Pulmuone Foods USA’s portfolio includes the Monterey Gourmet Foods brand, featuring pastas and sauces, and the Wildwood brand of tofu, salsas, hummus and dairy alternatives.
The company’s corporate, sales and food science headquarters are in Fullerton, with manufacturing facilities in California and New York.
