The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped for the 20th consecutive day Monday, falling three-tenths of a cent to $3.982 — its lowest amount since April 11, but the highest it’s been on Memorial Day since 2014.

The average price has decreased 13.8 cents over the past 20 days, including a half-cent Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 4.7 cents less than one week ago and 13.5 cents lower than one month ago, but 21.7 cents higher than one year ago.

The Orange County average price remained the same Monday at $3.952, ending a streak of 19 straight decreases. The Orange County average price is also at its lowest amount since April 11 but highest on Memorial Day since 2014.

The Orange County average price is 4.9 cents less than one week ago and 13.9 cents lower than one month ago, but 21.8 cents higher than one year ago.

“Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have plunged by more than 60 cents a gallon from their highest point of the year reached last month, but Southern California average gas prices have only dropped by about 12 cents a gallon,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“Consumers should consistently shop around for the lowest gasoline prices so stations will drop their prices faster.”
