The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department plans to re-launch its map that tracks residences in foreclosure on July 1 with related information, general manager Rushmore Cervantes announced Friday.
In 2010, the Los Angeles City Council enacted the Foreclosure Registry Program in response to the foreclosure crisis that started in 2008. It was intended to protect neighborhoods from blight caused by properties undergoing foreclosure, which often lack adequate maintenance and security, a statement from HCIDLA read.
The Foreclosure Registry Ordinance requires anyone involved with a residential property in foreclosure in the city to register the property with HCIDLA within 30 days of the notice of default.
In 2017, the GeoRegistry System was developed to provide more information in order to address issues resulting from the foreclosure crisis. Recently, HCIDLA’s Compliance Division and Systems Division enhanced GeoRegistry to update the database and make it more accessible, the department said. The map has also been fitted with a portal to share information with the public and a tool to report issues with properties undergoing foreclosure.
