Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” kept its spot atop the North American box office this weekend with $61 million in ticket sales, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The sequel to 2016’s hit, which again stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer, is coming off the second-biggest opening weekend of the pandemic era, grossing $187 million last weekend.
“The Bad Guys” was second with $6.9 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth week at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” was third with $4.6 million in its sixth week in theaters, Comscore reported.
“Firestarter,” a reboot of the 1984 horror film based on a Stephen King novel, opened in fourth place with $3.8 million.
In fifth place, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” continued its strong run with $3.3 million in its eighth week of release.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” ($2.42 million), “The Lost City” ($1.73 million), “The Northman” ($1.7 million), “Family Camp” ($1.42 million) and “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” ($1.05 million).
