A man was killed and two other people were injured when a vehicle crashed into two other vehicles that had collided and stopped on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Buena Park, authorities said Tuesday.
The fatal crash was reported at about 10:55 p.m. Monday south of Beach Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
About a minute earlier, two vehicles had collided and stopped in the No. 2 freeway lane, the CHP reported.
Both drivers got out, along with a 33-year-old San Diego man who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, the CHP reported. The drivers began exchanging information.
“Approximately one minute later, a third vehicle crashed into the two vehicles, both drivers, and the male passenger,” the CHP reported in a statement. “The male passenger was pronounced deceased on scene due to the injuries sustained in the second crash. Both drivers from the first crash were transported to the hospital with minor to major injuries sustained in the second crash. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.”
The name of the fatally injured man was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or the events leading up to it, was encouraged to contact the CHP’s Westminster-area office at 714-622-3600.
