A brush fire in Castaic that burned at least 14 acres of vegetation is 75% contained Wednesday, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to a report of the fire near Lake Hughes Road at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The flames were burning at a moderate speed and moved toward Castaic Lake, according to the Angeles National Forest.
The fire had grown to 14 acres by 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, but firefighters made “good progress” extinguishing the flames and there was a “low threat to the community,” the ANF tweeted.
The U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department battled the blaze with the use of night-flying helicopters as well as ground personnel.
Lake Hughes Road was closed east of Castaic as a precaution, but the roadway was reopened at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday the ANF reported.
No injuries were reported. It was unclear what sparked the blaze.
