A vehicle fire on eastbound Interstate 10 in the Mecca area was being battled Monday.
The fire was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. west of Cottonwood Springs Road, near Chiriaco Summit, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A semi-truck with a trailer was well involved in flames upon the arrival of fire crews, department officials said.
A hazardous materials team also responded to identify the material being transported.
The eastbound and westbound lanes on the freeway in the vicinity of the fire were expected to remain closed for three hours as of 7 p.m., and department officials advised the public to avoid the area.
