Former Los Angeles Mayor, who also served as U.S. ambassador to India, has joined Los Angeles-based artificial intelligence company Metropolis Technologies Inc. as an adviser, the company announced Thursday.

Garcetti will advise the company on public-private partnerships, government policy and urban infrastructure strategy, according to Metropolis.

“I’m excited to support a homegrown company rethinking how infrastructure can better serve Angelenos and cities everywhere,” Garcetti said in a statement. “What Metropolis is building has the potential to make urban life more convenient, safer, and more economically vibrant.”

Metropolis develops technology for checkout-free payments and automated access systems in industries including parking, retail, hospitality and security. Its platform uses vehicle and camera recognition technology and, according to company officials, made Metropolis North America’s largest parking operator in 2024.

The company said its long-term vision is to create what it calls a “Recognition Economy,” in which artificial intelligence and computer vision technology allow customers to access services and complete transactions automatically based on their presence rather than physical payment devices.
