Paintings and illustrations from more than a dozen established artists will be auctioned off during a benefit Saturday in Riverside to raise funds for a nonprofit geared to promoting the health of girls across the globe.
The “Art as Activism Charity Art Auction” is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Riverside Art Museum, 3425 Mission Inn Ave. It’s being jointly hosted by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Girls Act. The latter will be the recipient of auction proceeds, which will go toward its programs in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America, according to organizers.
“More than a dozen acclaimed artists have contributed artwork to the benefit, with many scheduled to be in attendance at the event to speak with patrons and guests about their artwork,” according to an online announcement. “Art as Activism is an evening of art, culture and community coming together to empower girls and create a brighter future.”
Girls Act offers educational resources to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, and improve reproductive health and overall hygienic practices in poverty-stressed areas, according to girlsact.org.
The following artists will have works on the auction block Saturday: Bernard Hoyes, Charles Bibbs, Adeola Davis-Aiyeloja, Chidi Ekwueme, Rev. Freda Lanoix, Bart Ross, Melvino Garretti, Varnnette Honeywood, Riea Owens, Joey Terrill, Ramsess, Reverend Judi Wortham, Meurice Howard, Michael Massingburg and Ingrid Humphrey.
