A water main break erupted in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday, disrupting service for about two dozen utility customers in the Chatworth area.

The break was reported at 4 a.m. in the 7200 block of Lurline Avenue, near Sherman Way and a Department of Motor Vehicles office, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The line was a low-pressure 6-inch main, according to LADWP spokeswoman Terinn Holman.

Crews were dispatched to shut off the water and make repairs, but there was no specific estimated time of restoration available.

According to Holman, such repairs typically take four to six hours, but it could well be less in this case.
