No evidence of a shooting was found after a high school football game at Los Angeles Southwest College was evacuated, authorities said Saturday.

An apparently false report of a shooting was made around 8:50 p.m. Friday, stopped the season opener between King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science and San Pedro High School, according to Deputy Gabriela Robles of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

At least one person sustained a minor injury while people were dispersing from the area, the sheriff’s department said. A woman was put into an ambulance, according to a report from the scene.

Personnel from the LASD and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and cleared the scene before midnight, according to the sheriff’s department.

San Pedro led 21-6 when the game was halted during the third quarter. It was not immediately clear if the game will be completed at a later date.

“(Sheriff’s personnel) told us to escort behind the bleachers and they escorted (the players) on the bus,” San Pedro coach Corey Walsh told the Torrance Daily Breeze. “That’s the extent of it, I haven’t gotten to close things out for the night with my guys, we just made sure everyone was safe.”

King/Drew coach Joe Torres told the Daily Breeze that the teams could meet again to finish the time on the clock, but San Pedro athletic director Anthony Rogosic said the result would go down as a San Pedro win.

The incident came on the same night that a 17-year-old boy was killed in a shooting during a high school football game in Bakersfield.
