Police on Thursday were seeking witnesses to a hit-and-run crash in Pacoima that left a 23-year-old man critically injured and the 20- year-old driver who hit him facing possible felony charges.
The victim, a Pacoima resident, was struck by a green Ford Expedition about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Telfair Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The SUV left the scene, but several witnesses, including an off-duty LAPD officer, put responding officers on the suspect’s trail, police said.
Jairo Alvarado was apprehended about 14 blocks from the crash scene, according to the LAPD.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Alvarado was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to sheriff’s online booking records.
