A 31-year-old transient, who detectives believe was involved in a recent South Bay bank robbery, was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to rob a bank in Carson.

Jovan Villela went into a Chase Bank in the 100 block of East Sepulveda Boulevard about 10 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding cash, Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said.

“As the teller was in the process of complying with Villela’s demand, he became nervous and started to leave the bank before being handed any cash,” Schrader said.

Villela allegedly entered an employee’s work area as he was leaving and took several of the worker’s personal items, she said.

“Villela exited the bank carrying the items he had allegedly stolen, when he was confronted by deputies and taken into custody,” Schrader said.

Villela, also believed to have robbed another bank in the Carson area in recent days, was booked at the sheriff’s Carson Station on suspicion of attempted bank robbery and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, she said.
