A police SWAT team arrested a man Sunday in a Long Beach motel after a bizarre standoff.

Officers were dispatched to the Pool Side Motel at 611 W. Pacific Coast Highway after getting a phone call from a man who said he was being held against his will by someone with a gun, according to Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson.

After officers arrived, the suspect eventually said he was alone, had a weapon, and that he was the one who had made the call. But he refused to surrender, so a SWAT team was called in, Johnson said.

Officers went in and took the suspect into custody after several hours, the sergeant said.

The man’s name was not made available. Johnson said he had an outstanding no-bail warrant and would be booked on suspicion of resisting arrest/disobeying police commands and making a false police report.
